To The Wallflower On The Outside Looking In…
Dear Wallflower,
It happened slowly. The fight to remain within the crowd and center stage, waning. And being pushed to the edges to stand watchful, felt comfortable. Envy swirled momentarily, those formative years, at the banter of center stage. Friendly. Exciting.
Yet, deep and quiet shadows entranced.
At each orbit of the earth around the sun, life grew smaller, friends less, and a wallflower came into full bloom.
Now, against a wall, and many times alone, can God work through us?
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Eph 2:10)
Is there a commission to the introverts of the world?
Scripture says that God knows the number of every hair on our heads (Matt 10:30) and that we are of more worth than many sparrows (Luke 12:7).
He is the God who sees us (Genesis 16:13).
God sees the wallflowers. The introverts of the world… Click To TweetSpurgeon says of this scripture, “You are looked at by God as much as if throughout space there were not another creature but yourself.”
If He knows us intimately then…
The seasons of our lives are of no surprise to Him.
Where our comfort lies, is no surprise to Him.

In our own awkward position, on the outskirts, can we comfort others?
I am convinced that beside the walls of life there are people standing there offering:
Hope.
Truth.
Companionship.
Love.
The Holy Spirit who is our compassion in every situation, offering gentleness, faithfulness, kindness, peace …
In a world that is increasingly UNcomfortable, God is asking us to step away from the walls and to bring others to Him.
Pray. Pause. Reach out.
The walls are stretching outward to the center stages of the world.
And the wallflowers are bringing repose to the masses.
Jesus.
Have you found yourself being stretched beyond your comfort zone to share the love of Christ? How have you done so and is there a way you can teach others, even wallflowers, to do the same?
Let us stand together to reach a dying world with the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ.

As a fellow introvert, I love this: “And the wallflowers are bringing repose to the masses.” I often wish I were an extrovert instead, but I know that God designed us introverts for a reason and I don’t need to negate it.
I totally get that, Lisa! I’m an introvert as well. I’m learning to embrace it.
