A few weeks ago at church, our pastor was talking about Zechariah in the temple. An angel came to him and told him that God had heard his prayer. And Zechariah wondered about God’s timing.

Have you ever wondered about the silence you get as a response to your prayers?

It can be disheartening at times – #amiright?

Well, Zechariah didn’t believe God was going to answer his prayer for a child. It had been too long. He was too old. His wife was too old.

Their desperate pleas for a child had gone unanswered so long, Elizabeth and Zechariah had given up.

They decided God wasn’t going to answer their prayer, or that His answer was ‘no.’

But that wasn’t the case.

Doubting God’s Timing

Zechariah wasn’t the only one to question God’s timing about his prayer’s for a child. In Genesis, Sarah actually laughed when Jesus told Abraham that she would have a child at her age.

She had already given her husband her servant as a second wife, so they could have children through her. (That didn’t work out so well, if you’re not familiar with the story. 0/10 – would not recommend.)

Sarah had not only given up on God, but tried to make it happen on her own.

Here’s Where I’m At…

God has given me a clear calling for writing words that point Christian women to Jesus. And it was going really good, until last April. And then the chronic migraines I thought I had under control… weren’t under control. At all.

After doing virtually no writing over the summer, God pressed on my heart that even if I couldn’t write, I could still use my platform to point others to Him.

It started with sending a snap of a verse to my kids every morning, and posting it on my story.

Then, I realized I could also post those verses on Facebook and Instagram.

The next thing I knew, I had turned them into Scripture journals that were selling on Etsy and Amazon.

God showed me that even if my head hurt, I could point people to Him. His Words are always more important than my words anyway.

But then I wavered.

I Wanted My Timing

I thought, if I’m posting these Scriptures, I should write a few words, a short devotion, to go with them…

I prayed that God would use my words to point to Him. I prayed that I could go back to writing daily devotions and publishing devotional books. But my head hurts, so writing is still hard. So instead of scheduling the Scriptures to post, I waited to post them with words….

Which I couldn’t think of, because my head hurt…

And I ended up not posting anything at all.

Instead of pointing people to Jesus, I felt like a failure.

When the truth was, God wasn’t saying I can no longer write for Him, but that I can’t write for Him right now.

While my head hurts, my calling looks different.

I have to wait for His timing to complete the work I want to do.

1.) A Thousand Years is as One Day
