Bible Verses About God's Love

6 Bible Verses About God’s Love

Valentines Day is less than a week away. All month you’ve probably reading blog posts and comments on social media about love. I don’t usually jump on bandwagons, but I wanted to share some Bible verses about God’s love.

Not because everyone’s doing it, but because God’s love for us changes everything. We are the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:31-32), and He is the best Valentine we could ever ask for.

Of course, we can always celebrate Valentine’s Day with our handsome hubbies, children, significant others, etc. Personally, I never have to question my husband’s love for me. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or just a random Monday. But if you aren’t married, or you don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day for whatever reason, I hope you know that you are loved more than you could ever imagine. Not just on February 14th, but every minute, of every hour, every day of the year your whole life long.

6 Bible Verses About God’s Love

1.) This is Love

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:8-10

No list of Bible verses about God’s love would be complete without 1 John 4:8 – God is love. And we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). He loves us so much He sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins (John 3:16).

2.) God’s Love For Us

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

God’s love for us goes above and beyond anything we can think or imagine (Eph. 3:19). As a mom, the idea of sending one of my children to die so others could have a relationship with me – it isn’t even something I can comprehend. Yet that’s exactly what God did for us. He did it knowing full well that not everyone would believe that was true, or ever love God in return.

3.) Nothing Can Separate Us From God’s Love

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39 NIV

This is one of my favorite truths. Not only did God love us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us, but no matter what we do, nothing can change His love for us. He will never take it back. He doesn’t “fall out of love.” God’s love for us is eternally secure.

4.) God’s Love Helps Us

When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.

Psalm 94:18

When we have a bad day (or a bad three years), God’s love is always right there with us. No matter what we face, His love can help us through it. We can trust that His love is unchanging, and that because of His love, it will all work out in the end. He can use all things for good (Romans 8:28).

5.) God’s Love is Slow to Anger

Tear your hearts, not just your clothes, and return to the Lord your God. For he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love, and he relents from sending disaster.

Joel 2:13 CSB

There are things God hates. He hates it when we lie. He hates it when we plan to do evil. When we stir up trouble in church (Proverbs 6:16-19). But even though He hates sin and evil, He never hates us. He is slow to anger and quick to forgive. No matter what we do, He won’t resent us, but love us unconditionally (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

6.) Because of God’s Love

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV

Because God loves us, He sent Jesus to die for us. Not because of anything we have done, will do, or could do, but because of His love for us. His love has saved us from eternal separation from Himself. He paid the price for our sins, because He loves us. We are His forever.
