Looking for Sunshine: 3 Self-Care Tips

Looking for the Sunshine

Cloudy skies and rain have characterized winter this year.
Endless looking for the next weather alert.
As a pluviophile, you would think I would be in my glory.
But with Corona and divorce and life … I long to see the sunshine.

Physically.
Mentally.
Emotionally.
When gray skies are endless, what do we do?

Self-care.

It is the new buzz word, but there is some truth to it. You must put your oxygen mask on first to help others.

3 Self-Care Tips

1.) Forgive yourself for imperfections.

Realize that God knew those before time began and still loves you.

2.) Say No.

Stand up for yourself but watch your tongue. Sometimes it looks like walking away or eating dark chocolate.

3.) Let yourself be held

…in every sense of the word.

If you’re overwhelmed and, on the edge, talk to your doctor. And go to your Great Physician as well. Moment by moment if necessary and lately, it’s necessary.

For almost everyone is in some form of quarantine, which has made work even more stressful and it doesn’t stop there.

I could list the anxieties and the coming-agnsts. We all have them in varying degrees.

And then there’s no creamer for your coffee and something falls onto the floor …
And you want to fall with it,
And turn two again, kicking your feet and screaming.

Being an adult is hard.
Doing it alone is hard.
But graciously, we are not alone.

What the Bible Says About Self-Care

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

John 14:16-20

I don’t have all the answers, I’m still swimming through mud puddles.

However, I know someone Who does and He is holding our heads above the muck and encasing our hearts with this Hope that doesn’t end and doesn’t disappoint.

We all are climbing over something,
Or still kicking our feet,
Or drying our tears,
Or reaching down to help another.

Be gentle with yourself,
And with those in your world.

In the end,
We are all looking for the sunshine,
Even this rain lover.
