Resting in the Presence of God

The presence of God changed Moses – and it changes us, too. The best thing is how the presence of God recreates us. Candid Gal, Dawn Kelley shares more in this post.

I heard a word recently that gave me pause. Re-Create.

Re-Create means to freshen, recharge, renew, repair, regenerate, revitalize, restore, revive and I could go on and on but I will stop there. Yes, I’ve heard this word before. I’ve used this word before but not in the context that I heard it this time. 

Coming into the Presence of God

One of my favorite stories in the Bible is in Exodus 33, when Moses pitched a tent outside of the camp. He called it the tent of meeting and this tent is where he would go to spend time with God; to spend time in the presence of God.

When Moses went to the tent of meeting, the people would stand outside their tents and stare at him until he entered it. Then, when he went inside the tent, there was a pillar of cloud that would come down and stand at the entrance. When the people would see the pillar of cloud they would all worship. This is when the Lord would speak to Moses face-to-face.

At one point Moses asked God if he could see His face. God’s response was “You cannot see My face nor can any man see My face and live.” Just the fact that Moses would ask the living God if he could see His face blows my mind. However God did show him His back. Can you imagine how Moses came away from that amazing encounter with God? 

Re-Created By His Presence

The presence of God changes you. After that Moses would go into the presence of God and come out with his face shining.

“When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded, the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone. So Moses would replace the veil over his face until he went in to speak with Him.” Exodus 34:33-35

When we rest in the presence of God, God Re-Creates us.

Resting in the Presence of God

Rest looks different from year to year, moment to moment and person to person. But first, Rest starts with the Presence of God. Real true rest requires us to begin in His presence and trust Him that He knows how to carry us during this rest. 

My life is busy.

My husband and I have been married for 23 years, we have 5 kids ranging from 10-22, I work full time while homeschooling and running a children’s ministry. Sometimes I am going from sun up until sundown. In the midst of all of this I can truly rest. I first have to come into His presence and trust that He is carrying me.

I have been challenged to ask God Daily how I should rest. I want to be Re-Created Daily. Join me in resting in His presence.
