Living from the Inside Out

Living from the inside out.

It’s a hard concept, but this is where my heart is right now.

I have been thinking a lot about my actions and reactions. Although they are not always wrong, living life this way causes me to pause and really think about where they are coming from.

Are they coming from a place of careful consideration?

Or a place of fixing?

Do I look at situations through the lens of Jesus?

What Living From the Inside Out Means for Me

Sometimes, as a mother and a wife, I want to fix things for my kids and my husband. But living from the inside out allows me to sit back and wait. It reminds me that it is God’s job to do the impossible and it is my job to steward my heart correctly.

I can take steps to fix my kids’ problems but it is not always my job to do so. Sometimes God gives me the answer to the situation and then He tells me to wait and pray. I take the time to reflect, look at the whole situation to steward my heart into the right position to hear what God wants me to do in that moment.

Romans 12:3 says to be transformed by the renewing of my mind. Living from the inside out.

In Matthew 23 Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees and tells them that  they needed to clean the inside of the cup first. They clean the outside of the cup but the inside of the cup  is dirty. When I look at the inside first I can be sure that my response is centered on Christ.

In my positions at work and Church I am expected to fix things as they arise. Here, in this space, I don’t have to make a decision on whether or not to step in. I know that it is my job and responsibility to step in. However, I am challenged to answer the question, solve the problem, and make the decision from the inside out. When I do this, there is clarity in my decision, I am not wavering on what needs to be done. My confidence in my decision is strong.

Our Innermost Being & the Wellspring of Life

‘So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.’

Proverbs 4:23 TPT

When we live from the outside in, it causes pressure and unneeded turmoil. We tend to live in a place of fight or flight. When we live from the inside out, we have the answers before we even need them. We approach situations from a place of wisdom.

My goal is to take Proverbs 4:23 and live it to the fullest. Guarding my heart knowing that everything else flows from it.
