The Keeper of My Heart

God is the keeper of my heart and yours.

As I sat in a Wednesday night class at my church, my mind raced with the million questions and the thoughts that entered. The topic, God’s Keeping Power.

What does it look like?

What does it look like as a wife, a mother, a sister and a friend?

I thought of all of my past relationships. Relationships with my siblings, my childhood best friend, my cousins, my parents and now my children. I thought about the good things and the bad things in those relationships. I thought about the times that I knew I fell short in my responsibilities in those relationships. I thought about where I felt that others fell short with me.

That’s when I asked God, “Was I a keeper to those in the relationship?”

Also in this moment He reminded me that He is the keeper in our relationship.

The God Who Keeps

In Genesis 28:15 God tells Jacob  “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

God changed Jacob’s life in a way that he could not have understood on his own. God kept him throughout his entire life, He provided everything that Jacob needed.

God wants to keep us. To keep means to take care of. Good looks after our every need, from food, to clothing, to healing and everything in between. God desires to be with us always.

God is the keeper of my heart.

The Keeper of My Heart

When my heart is heavy and hurting, He wants me to run to the keeper of my heart…Him.

When my relationship with God is my number one priority, and I am allowing Him to keep me, my other relationships thrive. I am able to keep those relationships that God has placed in my life in its healthiest state.

In order to keep those relationships that I have been given I must spend time with Holy Spirit because this is where my keeping power comes from. Outside of my family the only way that I know who those people are, is through prayer and seeking God.

First, My Husband

The first relationship that I am to keep is my husband. I must continue to be intentional in every part of my relationship. Your spouse tends to be the one person that gets all of our junk.

What if my husband got all of the things that God gave me from our time together? What if I became intentional and shared those things with him first? What if instead of telling him all the things that went wrong that day I was intentional about telling him of how God kept me that day.

My challenge is to allow him into the inner parts of what God is doing in me always.

Then, My Kids

The second is my kids. They are such a bright spot in my life. They are also the ones that God gave me to protect. Through spending time with God, He gives me insight into my kids and their needs. God has shown me that each one of them operates differently and so I must keep them differently.

What God is showing me is that while I keep relationships He keeps me. He shows me that when He is keeping me I can rest. I can let my hair down, kick off my shoes and put my feet up.

What About You?

I challenge you to join me in letting God keep you. Rest. and to be intentional about the relationship we are called to keep.
