Introducing Candid Conversations

Heather Hart · January 5, 2017 · 37 Comments

Do you ever feel like you aren’t good enough? Like, no matter how hard you try or what you do, you just never seem to measure up? Do you ever look around you and see all these amazing women, doing awesome things, and feel like that will never be you?

I think we all do that, at least to some degree. Or at least I do. My name is Heather Hart and I am the founder of CandidlyChristian.com. For those that are new here, this website is powered by a group of Christian women who all share the same message. And our message is simple, we want to share what real faith looks like in real life. It won’t always be perfect, and we need to know that.

We need to know that being less than the world’s definition of perfect, doesn’t make us less Christian than the girl next door. It doesn’t make us unworthy. We need to know that real faith isn’t flawless, and that’s okay because of Jesus. Jesus came because He knew we could never be perfect. He came because He knew we would need Him. That’s the message we try to share with you every week, but we wanted to take it deeper. We want to share with you face-to-face, and video is the best way for us to do that at this time. So, we are going to start sharing Candid Conversations. They are going to be short videos like this one, and we are just going to share our hearts with you.

We need to know that being less than perfect doesn't make us any less Christian than the girl next door. #solidtruth Click To Tweet

What’s Your Calling

I want to start out, today, sharing that this is something that God has called me to do for a long time and I just kept saying, “no.” Do you ever have something like that? Something where God says, “do this,” and you know it’s God telling you to do it, but you just say, “I. Don’t. Want. To. That’s hard God.”?

Well, video is my that thing. I don’t like being on video. I don’t feel like I’m good at it, I know I’m not a good speaker. I’d much rather be writing. Writing is easier. I can sit down and write a blog post, but sitting down to record a video is frustrating. The lighting has to be right. I’ve got to get my hair just right, even though I’m not really big on doing my hair or makeup or anything like that, I still want to look good in a video. And I want my background to look good. It’s just a whole process of recording and editing and uploading and all these different things that play into recording a video and it’s just not my favorite thing to do.

So when God called me to do this, I said, “But God, it would just be so much easier to write a blog post.” And so that’s what I’ve been doing.

I would love to hear what God is calling you to do, that you have been struggling with. If you have something like that, I’d love for you to share it in the comments below. Or if you have a comment or question you’d like to see covered in an upcoming Candid Conversation video, you can let us know about that as well.

It’s About Jesus

And this isn’t just about me, this is about Jesus. While I was recording this video. I was getting frustrated, I’ll be honest, but God brought me back to a verse that I memorized in 2015. It’s slowly become my life verse. It’s 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIV) and it says, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” It’s just a simple, short little verse, but it has been so powerful in my life.

As I was recording this video, and getting frustrated, God brought me back to that verse, and He reminded me that He is the One who is calling me to do this. It doesn’t matter how much I fight or struggle, if He is really the One who has called me — if I really believe that — than He is going to take care of it. He’s going to take care of everything that is going on. If it’s His will, He will do with it as He pleases. So even if I’m not a great speaker, He can use this for His glory.

So, whatever that thing is that you’re struggling with,  I would encourage you that the same is true. If it’s God who is calling you, than He will take care of the details. He will make it happen. And He will use it the way He wants to. Don’t be afraid to step out in faith, because the One who calls you is faithful.

Don't be afraid to step out in faith, because the One who calls you is faithful. Click To Tweet

Amen! Great word. My word this year is Jesus. I want to live for Him and for my life to be full of more of Him and less of me.

I loved this video.. this was so encouraging to all women… My thing that I feel God is calling me to that is hard is to just be ME… i have so many people that want to hush me or change my personality. I hate that. So a lot of times I feel that there is always something wrong with me. Im not quiet enough or froo-froo enough.. .meaning calming and quiet personality..I am the passionate, loud, fun, animated personality and it seems to offend a lot of people. So God is calling me to just be ME and its hard. You would think it would be easy to just be me but its not. Thanks for sharing. You did a great job in the video too.

Lol! I am the exact opposite! People tell me I’m too quiet. Sometimes it is hard to be who God made us to be. Too many opinions. But the One who calls us is faithful.

Bless you, Heather, for stepping out in obedience! I know we are all excited to see what amazing things God does in you and through you because of it. Thanks for your example. The thing God has called me to that is really, really hard for me is balance. I know he has called me to writing and a new ministry project that has come out of that. I also know he has called me to home school one of our children this year, and to be a good wife and mother. Balancing it all can be very difficult. Because I feel like organization & managing my home is an area I am not good at, sometimes my focus shifts to projects that make me feel better about myself. I let things slip until I forget my kids’ taekwondo tournament (this actually happened!), rather than asking God minute by minute to equip me to manage schedules and meals and housekeeping well. Because he IS able, and I know that he will. I will cling to that little verse you shared in my quest for balance. Thank you for putting your heart out there, Heather!

But is that something you struggle with? Something you are know you are called to, but you really don’t want to? Most of us struggle with holiness because our holiness come from Jesus. Not because we don’t want it, but because it’s so unattainable on our own.

It can be difficult to step out of our comfort zone, even when God is calling us to do it! It’s a huge blessing when we do it and see how it impacts other’s lives as well as yours.

What a wonderful post. I’ve always felt called to do mission work, and my fear and lack of strength has held me back. Yielding. That is the hardest thing for me, yet the thing I need to do the most!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today! When we look at others, we can either feel less than, or, if somehow we excel in a certain area, feel prideful. How we need to keep our eyes on Jesus.

Those times the Lord has pushed me out of my comfort zone have been hard, but I’ve seen Him work through that in unique ways.
