Grace & Truth For The Mistakes In Our Past
“Just pray,” I giggled as I skipped on by.
I had been praying for my high school friend to come to know Christ since he moved to our small town at the beginning of the school year and he had just told me he was ready to accept Jesus.
I don’t remember where I was going, why I was in a hurry, or even what I was so happy about. But I do remember that he stood there watching me half-run/half-skip away…. And I remember that he didn’t accept Christ that day. Or any day thereafter as far as I know.
I felt the shame of that day for years. The weight of my failure.
Sure, I was only a teenager, 16 or 17 years old. But I was on fire for Jesus and I had seriously dropped the ball.
That’s just one of the mistakes in my past that Satan likes to bring up every now and then. Just one of the things he uses to try and remind me what kind of a failure I am.
Which is why I’m thankful for Romans 8:1…
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus
Romans 8:1 (CSB)
I might be a failure, but I’m covered by the blood of Jesus. And if you have accepted Him as your Savior, so are you.

I know I’m not the only one who struggles with mistakes from their pasts.
This is just one example of one thing Satan brings up that happened twenty years ago.
Which is why, this week, when I came across Ashley’s post about learning to forgive yourself for your past mistakes, I knew it was the one I wanted to feature. Because whether you have learned to forgive yourself and you need a reminder to that it’s okay to tell Satan to take his reminders and shove it, or your still struggling to learn to forgive yourself for the first time, this is something we all struggle with to one degree or another.
