Fighting Fear with Prayer

Heather Hart · January 3, 2022 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever tried fighting fear with prayer?

For the most part, prayer is my #1 go-to when I’m scared. Sometimes it takes me a bit to get there, but when I do, I am ever so thankful that I did.

I recently wrote about three ways prayer can help you overcome your fears, but before I send you that way, I want to share five Bible verses about fighting fear with prayer.

7 Scriptures to Renew Your Faith When You’re Hanging On By A Thread

are you hanging by a thread?

By Candid Guest Chyna Nicole

As a single mom, I find myself hanging on by a thread more than I would like to admit. From keeping my time with God consistent, maintaining my health and business, to my child’s school and extracurricular activities, all to come home and have to keep it together to manage my home. Often I find myself running on empty as though I’ve hit a wall. Am I the only one who experience this or feel this way?

Truths to Remember When Walking Into the Unknown

Jessica Schneider · September 29, 2021 · Leave a Comment

truths to remember in the unknown

My youngest is starting Kindergarten in a few weeks (by the time you are reading this, she will have started). Not only is she my youngest, but she won’t be 5 until November, she is a bit behind in her speech, she’s little, and she has no clue what to do when people are mean to her. Seriously, she just sits there and cries.

In a short few weeks, I will be putting her on the bus with her brother. She will hopefully run on the bus with excitement to be going to the same school with him. But I know all too well what can happen on the bus. We have witnessed it over the past couple years.

On one particularly chaotic day, I asked Charlie what the bus driver was doing when all the chaos was ensuing. Be ready to laugh here, my friends.

When Trouble Comes…

Valerie Riese · September 20, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Do You have peace?

Cast your burden on the Lord, [release it] and he will sustain and uphold you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, or fail).

Psalm 55:22 AMP

A close friend once asked me how I can have peace over a hard situation because we share similar circumstances.

“I pray it away,” I told her, and then realized how trite that sounds to someone who is hurting.

Above the Noise: What Does the Bible Say About Listening?

Mariel Davenport · September 8, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Above the Noise

Being human is hard. We often live from a storm-tossed place with noise that can feel deafening even when it isn’t audible.

Walking hospital corridors towards the ICU to see my husband; rushing through afternoon traffic to get my son to the urgent care as the hives took over his neck; and getting a frantic call from my firstborn, who had hit bumpers with someone when he fell asleep at the wheel, have rounded out my last couple months. Adding to that, construction in our home as we made improvements only compounded my stress most days.

Take Refuge in The Rock

Jessica Schneider · September 6, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Take refuge in the rock

From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 61:2

Does your heart feel overwhelmed? Do you feel without strength and weak? Maybe like your heart just can’t take anymore?

Grief, sadness, fear, doubt, insecurities, the never-ending stream of bad news that never seems to end. All these can lead to our hearts feeling very overwhelmed. Our hearts can feel faint, and weak. And maybe like if “one more thing happens, you will drown.”

Anxiety and Fear in the Bible & in Life

Sherry Chamblee · July 7, 2021 · 2 Comments

Anxiety and Fear in the Bible

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Anxiety and Fear are two of my constant struggles.

In the last two, really three, years our family has gone through several upsets and traumas. These include deaths, a major restructuring of the house including massive downsizing, a move out of state in the middle of a pandemic, the pandemic itself, loss of friends, loss of relationship with some extended family… just multiple things.

I already struggle with anxiety and I know at least one of my six children does too. These issues over the last few years have only highlighted our problems and made me really confront these giants in my life. In my attempt to help fight this battle and to guide my children through those battles, I’m attempting to write down some things that I think God is trying to teach us.

3 Signs of a Spirit of Fear

Sherry Chamblee · November 4, 2020 · 3 Comments

The Spirit of Fear

There’s something about seeing a bird playing on the winds of a stormy day. It’s one of the most awe-inspiring things I can imagine.

This frail creature, throwing itself out into storms that can batter waves against rocks, pick up things and hurl them into the skies, whip sand into a frenzy.

But the birds play in it.

5 Ways to Guard Your Heart & Find Peace After a Hurtful Relationship

5 Ways to Guard Your Heart

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23 NIV

My phone slipped from my fingers to my lap as the room spun. My husband watched the color drain from my face and he pleaded again, “What did she just send you?”

My jaw slacked, but no sound came out. He glanced at my phone, still open to Facebook Messenger displaying a photo of my Mom holding a handwritten sign announcing the execution of our relationship:

NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!! — MOM!

3 Simple Exercises to Calm Your Nerves

3 simple exercises to calm your nerves

There’s nothing like a global pandemic to expose your nerves, heighten emotions and unearth the best (and the worst) in all of us.

If you’d asked me a year ago what I thought I’d be struggling with most during this unprecedented time in the world I’d probably think fear or anxiety. I tend to worry, play out worst-case scenarios in my head about my kids, my family and often myself. But that hasn’t been my reality. For whatever reason anxiety has been kept at bay, but something else has reared its ugly head.

I’ve become quarent-angry. (See what I did there?)
