The Greatest Rescue Mission Ever

The Greatest Rescue Mission Ever: A Candid Moment

Rescue those who are being taken away to death;
hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.

Proverbs 24:11 (ESV)

For the longest time when I read this verse, I thought of an intense action movie. I pictured donning some spy gear and infiltrating a place where injustice is happening. I imagined pulling someone out of danger in the nick of time. I got excited about being an action-star type rescuer.

But now, I’m reminded of Jesus.

He fulfilled this verse perfectly. His humble birth was the start of the greatest rescue mission ever.

Because He rescued me with love, care, and kindness, I am now invited to join in His rescue mission, following His lead.

I don’t rescue my way. I partner with Him. He is my rescuer and His mission changes how I live.

This verse reminds me of who God is, and propels me to engage meaningfully with the world around me.

Jesus, thank you for rescuing me with love and kindness, and for inviting me to join You on your mission on the Earth. Open my eyes to see what you are doing in my family, my community, and my city, and show me how I can partner with you. Help me remain focused on You in the midst of the distractions of this world. I love you, Jesus. Amen.

  1. Sarah, this is THE rescue mission we each and all are called to. I pray I am obedient to His call. (It was nice to hear your sweet voice to go along with the words.). May your Christmas Day be a sweet one.
