A Piece of My Heart
It was Valentine’s Day and I felt like a piece of my heart was missing…
“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.”

It was finally the time of the day when our teacher would pass out the Valentine’s Day cards. I nervously sat in that hard plastic chair at my desk, swinging my legs, eager to see what would be in those cards that day. I had dressed that in my favorite little denim jumper, and a festive red shirt, and I just knew today was going to be the day that a boy confessed his feelings for me.
Looking For a Piece of My Heart
I felt like a piece of my heart was missing, and I was certain that a valentine from a special guy would fill that hole, but each year those dreams fell short. All my valentines were signed “Your friend”. I longed for the love stories I saw on television, the kind would sweep me off my feet.
As I grew older, I chased that dream, dating people who weren’t right for me, always thinking that THIS guy would surely fill the void in my heart.
I committed my life to Jesus as a young girl, but it wasn’t until my late teens/early twenties that I truly found Jesus. What I had been missing was right in front of me the whole time, holding onto me during all the years when I was running. The things I was running towards wouldn’t fill the void, but I finally realized that God would.
4 Important Truths from God’s Word
The more my relationship with the Lord grew, and the more time I spent in the truths of His Word, I realized that God was my Valentine and His love filled the missing piece. He doesn’t just choose me on Valentine’s Day; He chooses me every day.
1.) I am loved
“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.” (1 John 4:9 NLT)
2.) I am a child of God
“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12 NLT)
3.) I am not alone
“Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT)
4.) I am fearfully and wonderfully made
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.” (Psalm 139: 13-14 NLT)
Are You Missing a Piece of Your Heart?
Are you running toward worldly things, or running away from God because the world has hurt you? I encourage you to lean into Him instead of running from Him.
Tell Him the hurt, the pain, the things that keep you up at night. Nothing is too big for God to handle. God never leaves me nor forsakes me. He loves me unconditionally.
Even when people let me down, God is always there with me. As the Valentines are being passed out this year, I encourage you to remember how loved you are by God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my true Valentine, and for the unconditional love that You give me. Thank You for filling the void in my heart. May Your unconditional love radiate through me to others today to show them Your love too. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
