3 Reasons to Love the Book of Job

I am reading through the Bible chronologically this year with some other ladies online. Today we started the book of Job.

Can I just say, I love the book of Job?

Does that make me weird?

I know it’s not the most popular book in the Bible, but I think it’s just misunderstood.

So I wanted to share three of the reasons I love the book of Job.

3 Reasons I Love the Book of Job

1.) Job’s Faith Is Real

One of the things I love about the book of Job is Job’s faith. It’s real and it’s raw.

He didn’t try to act like he was okay when he wasn’t.

He let himself grieve.

Job was honest with God about his feelings. He wasn’t afraid to tell God he didn’t understand why things were the way they were.

And as a result, Job’s faith grew.

He cried out to God, telling Him just how miserable he was, and God answered him.

That’s the power of prayer, y’all.

2.) God Comes Alive On The Pages of The Book of Job

I love how much it teaches us about God. All of the descriptions it gives and the language it uses.

It’s like God explodes across the pages.

I mean, pick up your Bible and turn to Job 36:26 and start reading. Read all the way through chapter 37. Talk about how amazing our God is. It leaves me awestruck every time.

3.) Job is a Picture of Us

I also love the big picture the book of Job gives us.

Job could be any one of us.

We all have hard lives. This could probably be its own blog post. But in the beginning, Job tried earning his righteousness and couldn’t. He thought he had it all figured out. But in the end, he knew he needed God, he trusted Him and repented.

Job points us to Jesus.

In fact, so do his “friends.”

Zophar said, “Know then that God exacts of you less than your guilt deserves.” (Job 11:6)

He was misguided that what happened to Job was a punishment, but let’s be honest, God has forgiven us for far more than we could ever ask or imagine. Much less than we deserve.

Life is hard. Bad things happen. But we don’t have to face them alone.
